Groundwork

Eat, work, sleep, repeat.  Over a period of four weeks, my life from Monday to Wednesday seems to echo that statement.  Admittedly, there's a good reason to study at university, but the busyness is a reflection of the modern adult life: as children we had very few things that we actually truly needed to worry about; now, as I fully enter the world of adulthood, in some ways I yearn for the carelessness of youth.  Because now it's "study this, work on that, prepare for tests, complete assignments on time", etcetera, etcetera.  Several "inside sources" tell me that this is only the beginning of a life constantly on the go, rarely stopping for a break, rarely giving you the opportunity to start over when you mess up.  This is it, we're out of the sandbox and we're about to discover that the world is a fair bit more complex than digging holes and making sandcastles.  But it's nothing we can't handle, right?  Well, let's certainly hope so.  Personally, I've seen things about myself that I could stand to lose before fully stepping out of my previously simple little world.

Look around you.  There are a myriad of people who gave little thought to what they were going to do once they "left the sandbox".  Drugs, getting drunk, sleeping around...no cares, right?  Sure, if that's what you want to believe - just be prepared to crash hard sometime in your life.  And let's face it: you can still harm your life without even abusing your body.  There are those who are "drifters", who never seem to know where they're going, just taking it as it comes.  Trust me, you don't want to be one of those - you may think it's all good to start with, but a general lack of purpose will do more harm than good (and as a sidenote, drifters do not make good spouses).

God didn't create us so we could ruin ourselves, and we need to remember that.  Sometimes even Christians need to be reminded that their lives are not just their own.  Therefore, be diligent in preparing yourself for the future.  You can do so much more for God and others if you take it seriously.

I know, there are so many people out there who rush around like headless chickens trying to do everything they think they have to. I would hate that kind of life!

i don't think we have to lose all of the casualness of childhood though, we can make an effort not to get caught up in the busyness of the world, though I guess it might not be so easy if you are studying at university.
