This, that, and the other (and Kingston)

'Briar' asked what papers I'm doing this semester, so in answer to that, I will now proceed to explain what I'm studying at uni now. There are four papers: Computer Technical Skills, Information Presentation & Communication, Electronics 1, and Electric Circuits 2 (a continuation from Electric Circuits 1).

Computer tech skills covers a lot of what I already know, i.e. assembling a computer, installing an operating system, safety, etc. It's interesting though, in that I love mucking about inside the box of the computer and setting them up.

Information communication and presentation deals with communication in the workplace, including learning how to do a presentation. It's all right, but I could do without the essay assignment coming up (it's in-class only, too).

Electronics 1 and Electric Circuits 2 are very similar in teaching form, though the topics they cover are different. I have the same lecturer I had for EC1 for EC2 - it's rather funny, because he thought that he'd gotten rid of us and that we'd have another lecturer for EC2. My, how he was surprised.

And now for something completely different. We had a youth event at our church on the 25th of July. The programme was to have some worship with the youth band, a speaker from Scripture Union, more worship, then the main attraction: power-rock band Kingston. Since I was there early to operate the powerpoint for the worship band, I had an opportunity to chat with a couple of the band members before the event started, which was neat. The band's set was a lot of fun, and there were a fair lot of people up the front moshing, clapping and dancing (I joined in a third of the way through, thanks to a friend's invitation. First time I've done that, actually). On their last song (radio single "Round We Go"), they got all the people up the front to dance 'round in a circle; it didn't quite turn out to be a circle, but it was fun nonetheless. Alas, Kingston's set was over far too soon. However, I did manage to come away from their performance with the only copy of their EP that they had there (they didn't bring any merchandise, so the drummer—thanks Ben!—gave me his copy instead). Not only that, but after "lying in wait" for all the band members, I managed to get it autographed as well! So all in all it was an awesome night.

Wish I could've been there.

You should come to parachute 2010. So far Family Force 5, Falling Up and Leeland are all gonna be there, and I heard a rumour about anberlin too. You missed out last year - family force 5 were sweet :P

That sounds like a similar schedule to mine for this semester: 3 core software engineering design courses and a communications course for engineers.
You say there are "four papers"- does that mean that each of these courses requires a written report, or is that a NZ term for a class?

LOL! I love that phrase..."Mucking about"...it's not one that's used very often in the States. I think the American equivalent of that expression would be "messing around." ;-)

So is your school schedule based on a four-day school week again this semester? And are you working while in college (not at the same time of course - you know what I mean :P)?

Sounds like you had loads of fun at the concert; and you got an autographed copy of their EP - very nice. :-)

Haha! That evokes a humorous mental image. :-P

I think I have yet to attend an actual concert, other than piano/orchestra-type concerts...

It's the NZ term for a class. ;-)

Sometimes. Every second week I have to go in an extra day, unfortunately. I'm sort of working, but only for myself. Work hasn't been too good lately either.

You should! As long as it's a band you like, it's totally worth it. This was my second band concert since Jars Of Clay.

Oh... :-/ Well I'll pray for you about that. :-)

Several bands I like have had shows nearby, actually (including The Afters) - my dad's not a huge "concert attending" type person, but I think he'd let me go if I went with someone he trusted. We'll see if it works out next time. ;-) Actually, Keith and Kristyn Getty (Keith wrote "In Christ Alone") came to JBU last week! They played for chapel and then had a sort of free worship time/concert that night - it was neat (loved the Irish accents and music, too!). :-)
